Thanks everyone for a great morning. We were presented with some fabulous photo opportunities and I felt the safety in numbers (even though we were all over the place). Apologies for not joining the crowd for coffee afterwards, but next time I'll budget more time. Great meeting you all and putting faces to names. Hope to see you all at the next meet and for those of you who were not able to attend on Sunday....make every effort to attend the next one....it's well worth the early hour!

I've posted some of my images on my personal blog (see below). Alternatively, you can visit my photo album on Facebook, the photo album is set to public view for now, so even if you're not a friend (yet), feel free to go have a look. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...4645095&type=3

I have a view on this ; I think the 'street intelligence' recognized that we were all part of a larger group and that any alert would have been met in numbers, with bad consequences for the delinquent (s). However, I must admit that perhaps we as a group should be a little more sensitive to where we are at any time and make sure that nobody drifts to far away from the group on his / her own. I was a little concerned early in the morning when it was still dark and some of the members were striding to far on their own from the group (when we were at the Reserve Bank area). Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but rather safe than sorry...

Terry had a nice 'sports whistle' with him ; perhaps something everybody should get and carry with... just in case.

Johann I think this is a brilliant idea and I'll make work of this for sure.

What I would however like to add was that even though I felt the safety in numbers.....at no point did I ever feel threatened or intimidated by passersby on the street. In fact I was pleasantly surprised at how super friendly everyone was. Having said this...it takes one criminal to spoil the day....so I will forever be on my guard.

Even with street intelligence, as you call it, it only takes a 5 second turn around to shoot something and you bags is gone if not strapped to your body.

Also consider that your assailant may be armed - how many of you would have then been prepared to jump in and help - I sure as hell wouldnt have been!! My life for your camera bag?? hmmmm, maybe but highly unlikely

A few years back ONE guy robbed three policeman of their service pistols at gun point between the station and the square in broad daylight. The policeman were in uniform at the time.

As footprint puts it, NEVER let your guard down!!

The bunch of Pretoria photographers are having our next outing this Sunday (11th of March) at the Pretoria Train station (the one in the CBD). Despite some of our member’s best efforts (thanks for all the trying Johann), we couldn’t get permission to shoot inside the station, but we are allowed outside. So we’ll meet up there are 06:00am for some photo’s, and from there walk down to Burgers Park and the Melrose house and back.

Anybody else is more than welcome to join us! With the amount of interest and people we had last time, this one should be quite fun again

If you have not as yet joined the Pretoria Photographers face book page you are missing out! We have had two very successful photo walks, meeting new people all the time and experiencing fabulous photo spots together. But....don't take my word for it. Go visit the face book page and see some of the amazing images that have been captured thus far! http://www.facebook.com/groups/pretoriaphotographers/

Our first two outings were both awesome, with quite a lot of people joining us (we've already got 114 members on our Facebook group). We're having our next outing this Sunday (15th of April), in the Pretoria West Industrial area. We'll be meeting at 06:00 am at the intersection of Mitchell and Buitenkant street in Pretoria West, anybody is more than welcome to join us. If you're looking for a map etc, there's some more info on our Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/groups/pretoriaphotographers/

A bunch of us are going to be doing a sunrise over Pretoria shoot this Sunday (22nd of April), close to Fort Klapperkop. We're planning on meeting at 05:30 at the big radio mast in Johan Rissik drive to set up, and then wait for the sun to come up. If anybody wants to join in, please feel free!
