Pretoria Photographers / Outings
I know some people tried this before, but what the heck, let’s give it another shot….
A lot of us have a list of semi- to very dodgy places that we’d like to go take photos (cemeteries, abandoned buildings etc), but can’t exactly visit alone. So in an effort to make it a bit easier to get some people together (specifically in Pretoria), we created a Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/pretoriaphotographers/
If you’re interested, join the group and then post a message on there if there’s a specific place that you would like to go. Hopefully we could get enough people together to form a scary enough looking group and make all the arrangements. Also, if we can get some contacts, we could maybe organize some group outings, similar to what the Joburg Photowalkers do.

Yup, we've tried this before, officially and impromptu, posting invitations here when myself or whoever intends to visit a specific spot, hoping someone will tag along whom we can impress with our vast knowledge on all things photographic, political, financial, news worthy, sporting, motoring, general busy-bodying, etc. Most of the times we ended up talking to ourselves.
Still, a good idea, lets hope it takes off with a bang. The more the merrier.

Awesome feedback so far, thanks everyone. The group is up to 16 people so far. So start coming up with those dodgy places you'd like to visit, or the photographic, political, financial, news worthy, sporting, motoring, general busy-bodying topics that you would like to discuss with Simon

Re: Pretoria Photographers / Outings
I want to do an early Sunday-morning before sunrise shoot (05:30-ish) in Pretoria city centre when the city is empty (hopefully). Would like to catch the sun's reflections on the ABSA / Reserve Bank (?), then do Church Square area, and perhaps even up to the station... Not quite sure how safe it is, so I believe there is (some) safety in a larger group.

Re: Pretoria Photographers / Outings
We had a bit more interest than we expected, so thanks to everybody who joined the group. We're tentatively planning an early morning outing to the Pretoria CBD for Sunday the 12th of February. Once we've got the arrangements like the exact time, parking, lawyers to arrange bail etc finalized, I'll put it up here as well, for anybody else who might be interested in joining us.

I think the response has been awesome! Really looking forward to my first photo walk / group event. Hopefully you all bring your A-game so us newbie's can get some pointers! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I won't be here, so enjoy it. As far as bail is concerned, you're not breaking any laws.

Hah, you don't know what we have planned! Just kidding, but hopefully this one will be the first of many outings, so hope to get some more people and that you can join us a next time

Re: Pretoria Photographers / Outings
For anyone else that might be interested, we’ve got a couple of people going on an early morning outing this Sunday (12th of February) to the Pretoria CBD. We’re meeting at the Reserve Bank at 05:30 (drive in with Church street and then you can park on the left hand side of Church street, right across the street from the Reserve bank).
Weather permitting, we will drive to Church Square after that for a couple of photos. Even if it rains, we will still be meeting up to hopefully get some interesting shots of empty wet city streets.

Re: Pretoria Photographers / Outings
Real pity for those who missed this morning's excursion to Pretoria Central (Reserve Bank and Church Square), and a wonderful opportunity to shoot INSIDE the Old Parliament's building ('Raadsaal' ?). It was just GREAT ! Thanks to all who participated and created a 'powerful team' ; nobody dared to touch us...

Re: Pretoria Photographers / Outings
Bothma thanks for starting this story.
I feel that the outing was a resounding success and it appears that everyone enjoyed it.
I would be interested to know how many of us were there but as we were all over the place I don't think that anybody was able to do a count. For those that missed the outing please try to make it next time.
