Weekend away
Looking for a place to spend a few nights (9 - 13 Feb 2012).
Not too expensive.
Self-catering.
Within 200km radius of Pretoria.
Want to take photos of birds, animals and nature.
Relax and braai every night.
Swimming pool.
2nd (or is it 7th) honeymoon.

Re: Weekend away
We are heading out to Monkey Thorn Lodge on the weekend of 3/4/5 Feb in celebration of a friends 40th birthday. First visit so I cannot comment quite yet, but I will be sure to give feedback on our return.
Monkey Thorn Lodge is situated in the wildlife reserve of Dinokeng. The lodge offers chalets and (of recent) camping accommodation. Other facilities include, braai, boma, game drives, swimming pool, neat ablutions and communal kitchen.
I do however believe (according to the website) that they only accept bookings for groups of no less than 20 people at a time, therefore group bookings only.
Visist their website for further details: http://www.monkeythornlodge.co.za

Re: Weekend away
Did not read your entire post, sorry. Maybe for future reference then. By the way it's you second or is it 7th honeymoon, why on earth would you want to spend the time taking photos of birds, animals and nature aren't you suppose to devote your attention to your better half?

With his grandchildren doubling in 6 months, I thinks there's enough development in that family!

Re: Weekend away
When you do decide to make the 2nd/7th honeymoon, consider Dikhololo or Weesgerus, both not too far. Borakalalo NP has also treated me kindly, lots of birds/wildlife opportunities. All are self catering.

Re: Weekend away
Sorry to hear that you had to postpone. A very nice little place is Umklewu Bushveld lodge(www.umklewubushveldlodge.co.za), just outside Nylstroom.
Regards and enjoy all the visiting family.
