Depends on the sizes, but the variable ND starts at R1,354 for the MkII and about R2450 for the MkII Ultra (supposedly the pro version)

The ND 500 is about R800 bucks (depends on sizes)

Sean, why do you say "MkII Ultra, supposedly the pro version" - what are its advantages over the MkII, if any ? Do you have all sizes in stock ?
You can pull the wool over some peoples eyes some of the time, however, you can never pull the wool over everyones eyes all the time .

I am not sure, I have not yet had time to look at the model differences, but it looks like a thinner model at a quick glance.

As to the sizes, I saw above 77mm only, but I will check tomorrow and make sure. hopefully the details will be in the online shop by then as well

Sorry, I misunderstood the differences... The Standard mkII is a 2-9 stop variable, and the Ultra is a 9-12 stop variable ND - it's not standard and pro versions.

We only have 77mm and 82mm and stepping rings for 58mm, 62mm, 67mm an 77mm

Sean, those demo shots you took of the filter, are those of at 2 and 9 stops respectively? Cos that 9-stopper looks like a 3.... Just wondering...

Trevor, those shots I just took of the filter with a half twist and shot again... (iphone) so no real test of the filter or a good indication.

I had a quick look now and confirmed with the distributers:

The mkII (standard) is a 2 to 8 stop Variable ND
The mkII Ultra is a 9 to 12 stop Variable ND

(9 stops is 1/500th to 1 sec difference, 12 stops is 1/5,000 to 1 sec difference - good enough to shoot a solar eclipse, apparently)

SWEEET!!! Finally a lightcraft workshop distributor in SA!! I have the ND500 and it is fantastic filter!! But I am keen on getting a variable and stacking that with the ND500, 9 stops just isn't enough in full day light

:P Really I thought ISO25600 was the lowest.... on a serious note... Often I want to do 60s exposure seascapes at 3-5pm and at f22, ISO100 my longest exposure without highlight clipping is around 5-20 seconds, depending on the scenes EV level. 9-stops seems dark but its just never dark enough Also for flexibility reasons, with only a 9 stop I am usually limited to about an 1.5 hours before sunset to get 30sec + exposures. I'll send you a link later this week once I'm done editing pics from the weekend, have a 4min exposure that came out great

Was given one to test and I am quite impressed so far. Looking forward to playing some more with it.
