Mata Mata: Generator still running?

Planning a trip to KTP. Although I like Nossob camp best I also like the drive south of Mata Mata.
But that Mata Mata generator running the whole day and into the evening is most irritating.

Anyone been there lately: what is the status there, are the generator still running and disturbing the peace and quiet of the camp?

Been there at the end 2011; the generator is still running (also the one in Nossob). From my point of view they are not much irritating; sometimes persons in the camps/park are more irritating than generator. Bye, Luca.

Hi Helenus.

I just came from there in the beginning of this month.

Generators are running at Nossob and Mata-Mata...although it seemed to me the one at Mata-Mata was much quiter than previous years .
In the day it's not really a big disturbance (as was mentioned, most times someone in the camp makes a louder racket) and they switch it off at 10pm in both camps.

The Auob is still a great drive and the cheetah action in that region is second to none at the moment...

Thanks Luca / Morkel. Last year's trip got cancelled when a short notice overseas trip fell into my lap But I am going this year end of May and looking forward to it!

I had a similar problem at Savute Public Camp Site last year September coming from Savute Elephant Camp next door. It was a nightmare, we couldn't sleep or hear any nature. Apparently there are rules WRT generator noise at these camp sites.

The generator at Nossob was much louder than the one at Mata Mata when we stayed there November 2011.
At Mata Mata we stayed at the Riverfront Bungalows and never ever heard the generators there. At Nossob we stayed in a chalet next to the campground and could clearly hear the generator.

mmhmm...now why would they not utilise this opportunity? are the Namibian authorities asking exuberant rates for the use of the power?
