I have been answering many of these thread responses on my iPad... Could you elaborate a bit more, maybe I am just missing it?
(by the way, this is a perfect illustration of what we are going to be dealing with in the coming months - iPad subsystems might get working, but then we need to get the playbook going, and the android browsers, and then e blackberry browsers... )

My first gripe is the size of the text after the page has fully loaded.
Before:
Attachment 7365
After loading completes:
Attachment 7364
I think this is also causing the horizontal scroll bar to needlessly appear when I'm on a computer. I understand the need for advertising but it's location on the page is causing problems.
My next gripe is that when a forum members name is too long in the last post column the "go to last post link" and icon disappear which hinders navigation. Your name in the second image illustrates.

Exactly why I asked before: why use vBulletin? Why not use phBB? I have not yet got an explanation from you on this. Please do take this as constructive criticism and not as a personal attack. And if you guys do decide to move over to phpBB, please do all developments and testing off-site before putting it online. It is called "project management" and "QA testing" (I will gladly help, with the QA aspects, for a fee) :-P

erm... now you got me... I have never removed more than one or two at a time... where was the previous bulk delete facility? We are looking into this.

Actually I did answer this a while back, but will give a better breakdown here. We looked at various options that needed to be able to do the following:
The base CMS or Forum needed to be able to integrate a Classifieds and Gallery system.
It needed to be able to cleanly import existing Data from our current system
It needed to be multi-server scalable
It needed user data integration into secondary CMS systems (in this case Joomla)
From there we needed a bunch of smaller requirements, splitting members into various subgroups (paid, unpaid, moderators, number of posts to activate classifieds, etc, etc) and so on and so forth. Things we needed functionalities for also included rating systems, spam protection, member infractions, and effective tracking solutions... All of the above also needed to do it in the least possible database connections to speed up the site
Obviously, we could only assess on what the developers say it can do, and then discuss with other developers that have implemented the systems to hear how it went and what problems they ran into. One by one the systems fell appart and in the end we decided on sticking to the "evil we know" instead of the "evil we don't know".
Now... VB4 claims to have an advanced search algorithm. Which should translate into Photopost Add-in, which should translate into the Classifieds... but indeed, it doesn't... with the search defaulting back to it's original setting when you go to a following page. We never picked up this bug from anybody before we went over... Many such small items and buggy code sections needed to be hashed out... phpBB is not much better, and in fact, having worked quite extensively with older versions of it, I hav had endless nightmares when I needed to scale...

I doubt whether we will move to phpBB, but if we do, we will, like with the current development, first put up a completely testing server in which we do all the possible tests we can for our limited resources, including the standard load tests, multiple database threads, etc, etc, etc... keeping in mind that 100 people cannot test it as thoroughly and under as diverse situations like 22,000 can.

Actually, it's called "stress testing"...

Yes, under the user profile, then "statistics", there was an option for gallery maintenance where you could select a gallery, eg Landscape and then all your landscape pics would be listed. By ticking a check box on the right of each pic and clicking a delete button at the bottom of the page all the selected pics were deleted. tjop tjop!

Hi Pottie.
If you go to your profile page you will see I added the manage photos feature.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

Not sure if someone has already reported this or not, but when searching the classifieds and selecting another page of the results, the search term is lost and I end up back on the main listing.

Sean, I'd just store and pass the search term as either a session variable or as a querystring but the latter is less secure and can open up a whole can of worms about sql injections if not properly handled .... can take a look if you guys'd like?

All the guys that picked up the sorting bug on the Classifieds... I think it's fixed now, can you please check?
It will (should ) sort overall or per category...

Re: New Design and Upgrade to Forums, Galleries and Classifieds!
has anyone reported the hitch on the classifieds section maybe?
I tried searching this thread, but all search results came back with every post made, as the subject line includes the word classifieds.
When selecting classifeds, eg, last 7 days, and Nikon, then search, page 1 gives about 4 pages of results.
When clicking on page 2 to go to the next page (at the bottom of the pages), page 2 then loads without the filter in place, and I now have 1-12 pages available.
Here are the URLs to show the problem, the exclusion of the &si=nikon seems to be the offending culprit.
Maybe that can help sort it?
Good search -
Code:
http://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=all&stype=1&si=nikon&perpage=12&sort=1&stype=&limit=last7&cat=all&ppuser=
clicking Page 2 reverts to no filter -
Code:
http://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=all&limit=last7&page=3&sort=1
Thanks much
