Again it depends on whether you have the correct codecs installed. WLMM imports my AVCHD movie files directly from my Panny for editing.

Yep... I should have expanded that... Most times you get the disks with the required installations/codecs, etc... Install it, and all should work fine

We have had a pain though with Mac based software... I can import and convert AVCHD with FinalCut, but the cam needs to be connected and a conversion happens as it gets copied. Takes quite long... maybe the next version will have it all in the box as the use of AVCHD becomes more widespread.

Well... it might... the VSLR clips come in .mov (h.264) format... so it tends to play on more or less anything

    Now I need help.

A friend shot some surf on his HD GoPro 2. We want to extract short clips and stills from the MP4.

I have downloaded Lightworks, but doesnt seem to be able to import MP4. Win Moviemaker same issue.

Where to start, do I have to first convert to AVI ?

MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) nothing better than it for converting videos and the price can't be beat!

Sean, dont know. This was his first out, so we will see on the next.

What I find the software is when you go back, playing backwards it struggles a bit. I click pause with a big delay. Easy enough to use for extracts end stills.
