Books or Sites for Beginners
It is my intention to go on a beginners course at The Photographic Academy in the new year but I am impatient to get into things now - properly - can anyone recommend any good books for beginners or sites / tutorials etc?

In Pix magazine they are advertsing a 3 cd set from Scott Kelby which they highly recommend. Agree on joining a photo club, this has helped me no end.

I think any of the books by Bryan Petersen are brilliant for beginners. I can recommend Understanding Exposure (the one updated for digital cameras) or Field Guide to Photography. It is very well written, with plenty of examples as well as technical and creative comments.

While it's not a textbook, "The Moment it Clicks" by Joe McNally is eminantly readable, conveys his enthusiasm for photography and includes many tips, especially related to lighting and environmental portraiture (individuals and groups). However you should probably have at least some understanding of the basics to get the most from it.

The best way I learned was to Google everything. Just type in Digital Photography+Aperture (If you wanted to know all about Aperture). There's a stunning amount of info on EVERY term and everything related to Photography.
My hard disk is full of information on nearly the whole spectrum - although learning A-Z Photography will take many many months. And I don't think you ever stop learning!

I can vouch as well. It's not so much the info but the way the info is presented and how he explains simple things like how ISO, shutter speed, etc all fits together.... Basically why certain pictures look the way they do.
I recommend it. Just bought it last night...
