Re: New Classifieds ruling.
Sean, if you are going to limit members to having only 2 ads running at a time, please can you make it a little easier to delete the ads for items that have been sold? I saw I still had active ads for stuff I marked as sold over 2 years ago! Finding a way to delete this now isn't as easy as it could be.

I'm pretty sure if its marked sold it does not count against your 2 adds

Yep, it shouldn't... if it does, something went wrong somewhere...

Re: New Classifieds ruling.
I had a similar problem posting a wanted ad the other day. It said I had too many ads, but I had only one other active ads and 5 ads marked as sold a LONG time back. It would be nice if there was an easier way to delete old ads too.

Re: New Classifieds ruling.
I don't see why the need for limiting ads. I have been selling ALL my photography equipment successfully on outdoorphoto for years. For the most part members here understand the equipment and respond really well to ads. Please reconsider this stance. I am on the outdoorphoto classifieds EVERYDAY. Its my favorite site!!! I have about 7 other items that I cannot list at present, which to be honest someone here could benefit from the saving. J.

AGREE! Furthermore if your old ads are up then at least buyers can see they are dealing with someone with some track record. This is exposing sellers to risk from scammers

Well actually it protects buyers from scammer a little bit more... if it's tagged as "sold" it doesn't limit your uploads. Also... using your real name as username tends to inspire more confidence...

So... maybe consider giving back a little and just upgrading to a premium membership. you have used this service for free for years, it has value for you, you have done numerous deals... Even though you broke our terms of service (new CF Cards), we have not removed you or blocked your account.

Actually it does limit you. All the ads I have on ODP are marked as sold and it still won't allow me to post an ad.
As for confidence and Usernames. I always use my real name in the ads however anyone can use any name so that does not give you any protection whereas my username is as unique as an ID number. If you Google my Username you will find every all my personal details including my address now that is real transparency and not something nebulous like "Sean Nel". How do I even know that, that is your real name. Even if it is, which Sean Nel are you, how do I get hold of you other than on this forum?
I am sure you did not intend to put out incorrect information or intend to discredit anyone but I you need to think a bit before making statements Sean.

Sorry to disagree with you Sean, but in my case it did limit me even though the 5 OLD ads were all marked as sold (properly marked as sold, and shown as such on the classifieds when I looked at them), and I only had 1 active ad. I had to delete the 5 sold ads before I could post another one in the 'Wanted' section. As it is I deleted the 1 active ad too because the new 'Wanted' ad I was posting was a repost of the old one that was still active. Maybe there is a glitch somewhere?

Allrighty, will have a look at it then... It might be that it's registering ads pre VB4 upgrade wrong... I have added it to the tech errors

I did not say it protects you. I said it inspires more confidence. There will always be tricksters and criminals and they don't play by the rules. The question was about your "history"... In the same way, nothing stops you from listing 20 items over three months and listing them all as sold. Or creating 10 accounts and giving yourself a nice "rating"
Since dropping the limits down, we have severely dropped scam ads. Are they gone? no, not at all, but we need to delete a lot less than before. If we want to get rid of them altogether, we need to make the next step where only premium members can use this service. We have found that most scammers are reluctant to spend money on risk. Some have tried to register premium accounts with stolen credit cards...
After a lot of deliberation, this is what we have settled on for the time being until we have found a better alternative. It's not perfect, but nobody has better ideas that will keep everybody happy.

Here's an idea.
How about a rating system. You buy something from someone, he performs as expected, he gets a +1 on his positive rating etc.
www.xbox-360.co.za has a system that works that way and it's fantastic

How does one delete old (marked as SOLD) ads?

There might be an easier way, but this is what I do:
Open your ad (while logged in), then click 'Edit ad', then at the very bottom there is a tickbox labeled Delete. This seems to do the trick.
