Seems like Suzuki likes using the HD tech.

Drew Gardner shot the UK version of it on the 5D

Awesome commercials. I am currently in the Market for a Canon 550d. I have heard that the video capabilities of the 550 are pretty darn close to the 7d. I know the two cameras a truly chalk and cheese but I will use it mainly for video and some pictures. I have also seen footage shot with the 550d compared to the 7d and my untrained eye cannot tell the difference. Does anyone here have any experience with the 2 models that could maybe confirm if video on these two are similar?

the bodies and abilities of the cameras are quite different... don't really have a list, but the 7D has a full HD hdmi output where the other bodies are all cropped

is a useful comparison site. Video will be very very similar between 7D and 550D.

yep... agree... the final video will be very similar, although the 7D has better low light noise handling and slightly better dynamic range (the 60D beats both though)

I was referring to the extras you might want as part of the features.... example, the 7D's larger buffer will allow you to use slower CF cards for short clips buffer it fills up, where the small buffer for the 550D will definitely require a card that is fast enough to sustain throughput.

Neither though, can currently (to date) be loaded with the Magic Lantern Firmware (only 5DmkII) which gives you waaay better sound, and lots of extra monitoring capabilities.

I also think that although you can use a Zacuto Zfinder on the 550, when you add a battery pack, the extender plate pushes past the end, making it difficult to mount on a tripod head (small thing, but a pain, nonetheless)

(sorry to the OP for the off topic discussion)

Thanks for the advice guys. I have been watching more and more videos of footage shot with the 550d. The more I watch it the more I realize that with what I currently shoot it's definately the wiser choice. I understand that it does have it's shortcomings as a video camera but whatever I cannot do with the dslr I can do with my little Sanyo xacti ca9 which has treated me well up to now. Thanks for the advice again guys.....and sorry for the thread jack

I've owned and used both the 7d and the 550d and in my own personal opinion I would go for the 550d over the 7d any day!

    Here are my reasons why:
    - the 550d is half the price of the 7d take the money you save and get equipment and lenses.
    - the 550D can run magic lantern firmware now and its the best magic lantern ever. manual audio control, better iso control (eg: 110, 125, 160 not just 100 200 400 800 etc...) zebra stripes, autofocus, rack focus, compression control, you can have picture in picture zoom to help with focusing, focus peak, custom cropmarks, you can set it to record from external and internal microphones, you can use USB has a headphone jack to monitor audio, you can set it to start recording automatically again when it reaches the 4 gig limit, its got a percentage exposure meter that you can have on permanently, you can remap the movie mode to a different place on the dial, you've got kelvin white balance, there's also an intervalometre incase you want to shoot time lapse stuff. There is literally too much to mention! and probably the coolest feature is that you can adjust everything while recording. you can go into the magic lantern menu and change anything you want without having to stop recording.

I have installed magic lantern on my 550d and it is literally the deal breaker to me now between 7d and 550d. It turns the little 550d into a monster! After using it I will never go back!

Ok, enough of me raving about magic lantern.

I think the footage between the 7d and 550d is basicall indistinguishable, maybe if you have super high quality monitors and you sit down and analyze clips filmed in controlled environment side by side you might notice a difference but filming in the real world with changing light conditions etc etc... I don't think you can tell them apart.

    I am a very happy 550D owner!

What happens to the hdmi output?

As far as I know the 7D is the only one that has full HD HDMi output...

However... If we can get all that into the 600D package, I'd be super stoked (much nicer noise pattern than the 550 or 7D)
