Oh : PART TWO - explain why :-)
I shoot RAW + S Basic jpg (for easy sorting and selection)
All selected images go through a RAW-conversion and workflow process in order to derive the best from the camera. Why throw away what you're paying for? The camera's RAW function allows you far more latitude in imperfect conditions, which you can balance and tweak during conversion.
In some cases you can rectify and even completely 'save' shots that, from the accompanying jpg, look like 'boo-boo-bin specials'.

Re: Raw?
For me raw is everything that was captured, jpeg is a finished product that cannot be worked back on very far.
From my DSLR'S I use raw as I am wanting something very specific in the image I am shooting and need everything there is to work with.
I use compacts as well, the jpegs they produce are very high quality and on par with a lot of work done on a raw image.
However, they are used to capture things with the intention of as little processing as can be had with attention given to taking the shot correctly.
The use of the equipment is in my case split into two and are used accordingly.
If shooting images where they will have to serve use at all level's, stick to raw.

Re: Raw?
Shoot RAW, shoot RAW, shoot RAW :-) I cannot even think of shooting anything else these days, I wish someone klapped me earlier to put my camera on raw.
