Getting a cheap 50 serviced - Worth it?
Hi All
Looking for a little advice and input. I was recently given a Nikon 50mm 1.8 by an acqaintance that did not want it any more as "it always over exposes images". Upon inspection I found that the lubricant had seeped onto the aperture blades and this is causing the blades to stick.
Now to my question: Does anybody know what the cost involved in solving this problem is? Is it worth it to get this lens fixed? It is a fairly cheap lens. Is it worth the courier to and from Nikon in JHB and the service charge to get it fixed or should I just leave it as. I gave Nikon a call to enquire as to how much it would be, but was informed that they can not give me a quote without inspecting the lens. Has anybody had a similar situation that can advise me on cost or at least give me a ballpark figure? Would really appreciate any input as I dont want to spend a lot of money on something I dont really need.
Thanks for the help.
Jano
