    Default Camera stores in PTA

    Howdee all,

I am looking for a Panasonic FZ28, but am struggling to find a shop that has stock. I can order it online, but would like to go have a look first. And I'd like to have it NOW, not wait 2-3 weeks for delivery... Impatient, I know. Any suggestions on shops in, or around, PTA that might have it?

"The person" had a look on the Shop section before I posted, but there's only Canon and Nikon cameras listed. Does ODP actually have a shop I can go to? As mentioned, I'd like to have a look first.

I'll give them a call, thanks.

Rival, welcome to ODP ... sorry you had a sarky swipe in response to your polite request.

Hedrus only stocks Canon & Nikon ... try @photo in the Glenfair shopping centre as they keep the wider variety.

I have found that even if ODP don't stock an item they are usually prepared to source it at a competitive price - give them a ring - they have a physical shop

Maybe Panasonic can point you in the right direction? Or are they also behind on stock?

Thanks everyone for all the info.

Think my phone-bill has taken quite a knock this morning. No luck. I even gave Panasonic a call and they said that they're not even sure yet whether they're gonna bring the camera into the country, but that I can wait till next year to see what happens... I'm not the waiting kind, so I'm gonna have to order through SACamera, but the price seems a bit steep. At least they got stock, so I'll only have to wait till about Tue/Wed, if I order today.

Is there a reason you are looking for a Panasonic?
Maybe look into the Sony range as well. How about Nikon?

I read a LOT of reviews on the "super-zooms" and the FZ28 seems to have the best lens and it's packed with a list of features I haven't managed to find yet on any other non-slr. Any suggestions/advise is more than welcome.

How about go play with an older model before you make the buy? My last Panny is the FZ30 and thought it is a great and fast P&S, you will pick up a lot of noise, and zoom is not that great. It is going to leave you hungry for better and longer ... been there done that

Also try Fotocats in Brooklyn Mall. David always offered very unbiased advice. (Man I miss the camera stores back home!)

I think I tried about 90% of the camera shops in PTA (incl NewWorld and Fotocats), and some in Joburg.

Thanks again for all the advice, and info.

I took the plunge yesterday morning, and ordered from sacamera. I should have my new toy by Tue/Wed.

@Linn: I read a lot of reviews, and it seems that the FZ28 has quite a bit less noise than its predecessors. I've accepted the fact that a P/S is going to have some noise, especially at higher ISO. I guess I'll find out soon enough...
