I would start by putting the camera into "Shutter Priority" mode and then setting the shutter speed around 2000. Play with it, try it a bit faster or slower.
Maybe you can create a nice panning...

Great photos, but the home page is 4,443KB in size. That's far too big. That's why people normally display thumbnails first.

As far as the converters go on the 400mm, AF will only work on a 1D.
